At work we have a large Perforce repository (approx 40k changelists, total storage size ~145GB). We're generally happy with Perforce with only some mild gripes, but we're planning to go to a more distributed development model and as a result, would like to move to a more distributed version control system as well.

I think, you should post such questions into the Usage/General forum. Could you clarify which part of Perforce you are refering to (Server (p4d), command line client (p4) or visual client (P4V))? Let me know if you need any additional information. Perforce does a much better job with multiple change lists than Subversion. Subversion's changelists are somewhat of an afterthought and I know few who use it. Perforce is built in. If you move a changed file from the default change list, it doesn't get accidentally committed. Perforce allows you to specify your working directory layout.
